The Department of Zoology was established in 1930 providing
an integrated learning experience in the field of zoology in the form of a
Bachelor's degree. With time the department offered a postgraduate course in
zoology with a specialization in Animal physiology. It provides a good environment for research
towards advancing the frontiers of knowledge. It also grooms and trains
students in the modern techniques of science. The department has a well-equipped
laboratory for the undergraduate and postgraduate classes with an enriched
library. The department organizes extracurricular activities from time to time
such as conferences, workshops, hands-on training for students, symposia,
seminars, and science exhibitions, and also every year organizes the intercollegiate
event “Zoofest” as well Every year
Science fest is celebrated on 27 and 28 February. On the occasion of National Science Day is
celebrated in India on 28 February each year to mark the discovery of the Raman
effect by Indian physicist Sir Chandrashekhara Venkata Raman on 28 February
1928. Zoology Department organizes intradepartmental competitions under
different categories like Nature and wildlife photography, Poster presentation
and Declamation, model Making etc. It helps to expand the knowledge and
understanding of the new concepts and various aspects of students and faculty
members and also provides a platform for students to interact and showcase
their skills and talent. Bird watching activities are also conducted, and
documentation of birds on the College campus has been done by the staff members
and UG, PG students. Our department provides exposure to the UG and PG students
by organizing excursion tours, one-day field visits to various institutes,
hospitals, ecosystems etc. The department also has a Ornithology club and
Zoological Colloquium “EnthuZooastic”
which organizes various activities for the benefit of the students. As the
activity of the club Eminent scientists, Researchers, Academicians,
Naturalists, Zoologists, and Environmentalists are regularly invited to give
talks. Staff members keep themselves updated on recent research and also
contribute by publishing papers in reputed journals.
