Ismail
Yusuf College was established in 1930 AD. Since its inception, students from
all economic strata of Jogeshwari and Mumbai are studying in this college.
Along with the establishment of the college, departments of many subjects were
also started. One of them is Foundation Course section. This department has
been a pioneer in creating a very rich literary culture about fundamental
rights and duties as a responsible Indian citizen. There are many other
Department head do the additionally charged as department heads. Many such
known and unknown Foundation Course professors make contribution towards to
students. Strengthened former students of Foundation Course Department are
working as various positions on such top sector, government organizations and
various notable sector.
Foundation Course was introduced with an objective
to acquaint the students with concepts of the social awareness, to appreciate
the Unity in Diversity of Indian society and to understand factors that have
influenced the cultural, economic, environmental and political factors of
Indian society. Keeping in tune with the revised syllabi, the committee has
introduced themes in lieu with issues of a rapidly changing Indian society. The
revised syllabus is an attempt to make students conscious of their duties, responsibilities
and role towards the society. Students have the Knowledge of components of
society and aware about the problems in society. Under Credit Based Semester
& Grading System (CBSGS) and continuous evaluation consisting of components
of External Assessment & Internal Assessment. The external component of
theory exams of 75 marks and an internal component of assignments/presentations
for 25 marks of Foundational course for B.A., B. Com . and B.Sc.
Foundation course is an inter-disciplinary
subject which is taught at F.Y., S.Y., B.A., B. Com. , BSc. level. It is a
compulsory subject prescribed by the Mumbai University to create social &
general awareness about the Indian society among the students. it emphasizes on
current social issues. This course also aims at scientific & technological
advancement, globalisation and its effects on Indian Society and other such type
of issues to be studied by the students. To fulfill the objectives of the
course, University has also prescribed projects & assignment works for the
student to inculcate the habit of research among students community. Apart from
this, foundation course department also organizes guest lecture, field visit
for the benefit of students.
The
Department of Foundation Course is forever tied to the community through
important student co-curricular activities such as National Service Scheme,
National Cadet Corps, Lifelong Studies and Extension Department. From literary
taste to today's competitive dynamic era, the department is committed to the
interests of students.
